Registration of a child as a British citizen
Registering a Child as a British Citizen
If your child is not automatically a British citizen, they may still be eligible to apply for British citizenship through registration. This process is available to children under 18 who meet specific criteria.
Who Can Apply?
A child may be eligible to apply for registration as a British citizen if:
-
They were born in the UK to parents who are not British citizens or settled in the UK.
-
They were born outside the UK, but one or both parents are British citizens or settled in the UK.
-
In certain cases, children who have lived in the UK for a period of time may also qualify.
When Can You Apply?
The application process can vary depending on the child's circumstances. Generally, a child must be under 18 at the time of application. For some children, there are additional requirements, such as having lived in the UK for a set period of time or meeting specific residency conditions.
